Peer-Reviewed

The reason why peer-review is so important is because it helps the flaws that a person has miss get noticed. It helps also by pointing out thing that might not be an authors work. As it goes for the readers it helps you feel more secure about the information that you are taking in. Peer re-viewing makes the reader feel a little bit more confident about using the information in other works or supporting an agreement. One of the ways that you can tell if the article has been peer reviewed is if it simple state that it has been peer-review or if it has a reference list.Another way is by knowing the clue to look for in a type of article. If you can see that the article is going into great detail into whatever it is talked about it is most likely something that you would classified as scholarly. I feel that if you are doing any type of research it is always helpful to use something that has been peer-reviewed. If you are trying to support an argument than it is always good to use that kind of source. Mv personal i look for peer-reviewed source when ever im doing some kind of paper that i feel need some support to back up my topic.

For the research project that I am doing I think that all of the sources would be helpful. I feel like each one of them would touch the subject in a different light. I’m doing my project over the relationship between the klu klux klan and the illness of xenophobia. The two sources that stick out to me as being the best is the scholarly book and scholarly journal articles. The reason why I think this will be best is because my research question has a history base in it, meaning the klu klux klan. I feel like scholarly sources would give me the most information to prove facts on the subject. The scholarly sources would give me a better meaning on the subject as in me being able to understand and grasp the material better. The next one that I would look into is a newspaper which I would be able to refer to for dating actually events. Newspaper article I feel will go hand in hand with the informational fact that I get from the scholarly sources. When looking at a newspaper it shows the effect of whatever is going on it’s a resource that you go to when looking for examples of what you are arguing.  A book as a source can play as a very board source but I feel if it was like a book that was written by someone that actually went along or had witness first had the klu klux klan actions some of the material could maybe help support the argument that is trying to be made.  Government documents can be used if I want to show the statics of a situation mostly I can use graphs or charts to help with proving my research has some type of substance background. Magazines and encyclopedia may also be helpful but I’m not too sure in what way.

Debate

The debate on why African Americans should go to HBCU was very informational and inspiring. As an African American of course this option came to mind. As we can clearly tell I didn’t go down that route. After going to this debate I could honestly say that I found closer on my decision. The West Georgia debate teammates made it very clear to me that I did make the right decision on not going. The Clark Atlanta and Spellman did make an argument but it was convincing at all. Some of the points that were brought up were the fact that in HBCU’s African American students gets to learn more about where they come from. The HBCU team mates argued that all African Americans should know the background in depth and that’s why HBCU have required classes that everyone should take. This is one of the things that I felt un-different about I feel that it is true us as African  Americans should know our background but for us to be forced to make that option isn’t something that I agree with. The West Ga team also brought up the fact that we do have African American history as a class here at the university which I wasn’t aware of.  The fact that it is taught here is a plus to all African Americans that decided that they didn’t want to attend an HBCU. The biggest points that caught my attention was the argument of how there is a bigger percent that African American students that go to HBCU end up with a much bigger debt than ones that dont attend one. The cost of going to a well-known HBCU is great deal of a difference in price than one that isn’t. The fact that most African Americans come from low income family doesn’t benefit us at all. The other topic that I couldn’t really get a grasp on was the fact that almost all HBCU are placed in low income communities. The argument that was made is that students can help out the community and other African Americans. In my opinion it’s like putting a child in front of a candy store but not giving the child any money. I’m not saying all African Americans are poor but the price of college is expensive anywhere. Why do us African American have to pay more to stick together?

Changes

After going over my group’s topic and trying to find a better way to approach the question i came up with a new research question. My research question: Is the relationship of the action of the Klu Klux Klan displacing the actions of people that are suffering from the illness xenophobia. I believe when changing my research question I narrowed it down. The reason that I did this is because I want to focus on the point that I feel like the member of the Klu Klux Klan had a legitimate illness that caused them to act the way that they did. My main focus is to look at their action in more of a psychological battle rather than them simply being “racist”. I feel like this topic is a topic that will engage an audience. I know for a fact that it would have a counter opposite to this subject at hand. I feel like I can find a lot of information that can help me make an argument. The first step is to look up and understand completely the definition of xenophobia. After being knowledgeable on that subject comparing the action of the members of the KKK and showing that they did in fact suffer from this illness.

Research question

The research question that i have picked is. What is the relationship between the Ku Klux Klan and the definition of xenophobia? I feel like it’s a good research question because i feel like you can actually answer the question. I think that the question is straight forward and it will not overwhelm me when look for an answer for the question. The question is also interesting and brings out a different outlook on the actually reason why maybe these group of people where the way they were.  Well after looking up what the Klu Klux Klan is and the actually definition of xenophobia i compared notes and realized that I can prove that the Klu Klux Klan can fall under a group a people that suffer from xenophobia. After reaching both things I can have an argument on why the people are not only racist.  What I would like to research further is if the can answer the question of why hate crimes were committed back in the day of when this was really prevalent. I would also like to make it clear on what xenophobia is and how it effects people and that sometimes people react the way that the Ku Klux Klan did.

Xenophobia

My group the pink group picked the subject  Xenophobia which was our broad subject. When we focused on making our subject smaller we came up with the Klu Klux Klan. I think the reason we had to pick our subject the way that we did is because you wanted us to become more familiar on how to look up a reliable source. The fact that we had to find the who what when and where i think was to show if the article gave enough information to even do a good  research paper on. After presearching the topic the most interesting thing about this subject is how this group can be categorize as a group of people that suffer from xenophobia. I didn't ever categorize the group as a xenophobia group. I dont feel like back than when they formed the group that they knew that it was a group that feared and hated people that where foreign to them. What really brings my interest in this subject was the people that form the klu klux klan really scared of foreigners and did they just cover it up with hate, or was it actually hatred that they had towards these groups of people.
